Young Rising Star Win National Womens Championship

youngrising Rawalpindi’s Young Rising Star wore the crown after beating WAPDA 2-0 in the final of the Sixth National Women Football Championship held at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad on Thursday.

Earlier Lahore’s Sports Sciences edged out Islamabad 5-4 on penalties to take the third position in the event in which 12 leading teams from the country took part.

The decider between Young Rising Star and WAPDA remained a tough fight with both sides offering enough resistance to take the initiative.However, Young Rising Star were the first to take the well-deserved lead through Asma Tehsin in the 28th minute.

Soon after the start of the second half, Young Rising Star took an open chance and this time Malaika Noor made no mistake to score past the goalkeeper to take her team’s lead to 2-0 which remained till full time.

This was the eighth goal from Malaika, helping her to grab the leading scorer award with a tally of eight goals to her credit. Hajra Khan from Diya FC Karachi was declared the best player of the tournament while Mafara from Young Rising Star was adjudged as the best goalie.

Shafaat Habib and Tauqeer claimed the best referee and assistant referee awards respectively.

The secretary of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Col Ahmed Yar Lodhi distributed the prizes during closing ceremony.
